The Wild Northwest

What's up everyone?

This week was good.  Not too much going on but good things are happening here in Tillamook.  Let's see if I can even remember what happened this week haha.  We found some awesome potentials that I am very excited about!

The first one's name is Elisabeth.  She is super cool.  She is a young single mom and knows a few members in the ward and she doesn't go to a church because she hasn't found a good one in town yet.  She was very interested in learning more of what we had to share so she seems very prepared.  The other one was this Hispanic dude named Phabian.  He is such a stud.  His brother is a member and has been trying to get him involved but he hasn't yet.  He was interested in taking the discussions but he just has a crazy work schedule.  Another one's name is Eric.  He owns a massive dairy farm on the south end of Tillamook County.  He was a referral from the stake and we were finally able to teach him.  It went really well!  he was intrigued when we taught him about the Great Apostasy and Restoration!  He should be a solid one as well.

As for the people we are currently teaching, nothing really has changed.  None of them came to church which sucked.  Haylee is out of town for spring break and the other people have been sick.  We had an awesome lesson with Ken this week though.  We committed him to baptism but is praying about a date right now.  Hester's date will need to move as well.  We should be having a lesson with her tonight.

That's about it from me.  Life is good out in the wild northwest.  I am loving this work so much.  I love the Savior and having the privilege of teaching and testifying of Him everyday!  I love you all and hope you have a fantastic week!

20 Months!

March 18, 2019

What's up everyone?

Tomorrow I hit my twenty month mark which is nuts.  That is how long my trainer, Elder Folkersen, had been out when he got me.  Man, it felt like he had been out for eternity.  I'm gonna try and make the most of my final four months!  We got our transfer calls on Saturday and we are staying another 6 here in the Mook so we are very excited about that.

This week was good!  We were able to teach a lot and find some more people to teach.  Two members brought their non-member friends to church so we are going to start teaching them hopefully this coming week.  The members are honestly the best way to find people to teach.  Don't be afraid to share the gospel with people!  We taught Hester the Word of Wisdom this week and she committed to live it.  She committed to a new date of April 27th.  We are praying she will make that!

We did lots of driving this week which always sucks!  Luckily a lot of it was along the coast.  We had to travel down to South County which is a bunch of little super tiny towns.  Basically the middle of nowhere.  It is nice though because all of the homes are just in the middle of the woods or on dairy farms.  We contacted a referral named Eric down there.  The dude opened the door with no pants on---:-)  He told us to come back the next day but he wasn't home then.  Now, we don't have enough miles to go back down there this month.  We contacted this super cool less active named Eric.  He hasn't been to church in years.  We talked to him on is porch for about an hour.  After talking with him, we invited him to church and he nicely declined but he said he'd love to feed us.  We called him the next day to confirm a day to have dinner with him and at the end of the phone call he paused and said, "well, I guess I'll see you next Sunday at church."  it was really cool to see as we ministered to him, his heart softened!

We also did some traveling on the north part of our area which is more of the coast.  We drove up to the most northern town in our area called Manzanita.  It is an awesome town with a whole bunch of nice vacation beach homes.  We contacted this sweet lady who was a member of the reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  She said she left when they changed the name to Community of Christ or whatever.  She was awesome though and was open to meeting with us.  It will be interesting teaching her with her background!  That day, we were up north all day and didn't have time to get back to Tillamook by dinner so we packed a dinner and ate right by the beach.  It was nice.

That was basically our week.  I love you guys.  I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer.  I hope you all were able to see the video of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles bearing their testimonies at the Rome temple dedication.  It is always very powerful to hear their testimonies.  Have a great week!

Keizer Zone Reunion at Zone Conference last week!  Love these Elders!  (Someone should tell that clown on the left to fix his tie smh)

Another Great Week Here on the Oregon Coast

March 11, 2019

Family and Friends,

Another great week here on the Oregon coast!  it has been another busy week just going from appointment to appointment which is super nice.  We have had some run-ins with a few Bible bashers this week.  I swear every time someone tries to bash with us it strengthens my testimony even more.  I know this church is true.

So, this week, we had to drop two people that were on date for baptism.  We couldn't contact Tony at all and he wasn't keeping any commitments so we are giving him some time.  Then that Victor guy who apparently wanted to be baptized was really only interested in the financial help that the church could give him, not actually following Jesus Christ.  He told us that he didn't want anything to do with us until our Bishop called him back about financial help, ha ha!

Others we are teaching are doing awesome though.  It sucked though because everyone was either out of town, at work, or sick this week and didn't come to church.  Ken and Hester are doing well.  We may have to move Hester's day back a bit.  Ken is continuing to read and pray and grow his testimony.  He committed to live the Word of Wisdom which will be a challenge for him but I know he can do it!  We started teaching a man named Rob who is an amazing dude!   He is going through lots of struggles right now, but is so willing to let the Savior help him.  I am excited to continue working with him.  We had a good lesson with a guy named Matthew.  He has been struggling with baptism by proper authority.  He was baptized when he was three and he felt like that was good enough.  We had an awesome lesson with him where everything seemed to click.  He accepted to be baptized on April 27!! Haylee was out of town so we didn't have another lesson with her unfortunately.

We had zone conference this week which was super good.  We talked about PMG Chapter 10 and how we can improve our teaching skills.  President Tateoka talked a lot about receiving revelation and how important it is for us as missionaries to receive revelation for ourselves, the people we teach, and for the area we serve in!  It was awesome.  Right after zone conference, we exchanged with the Forest Grove 1st Elders.  I went with my District Leader, Elder Pudelko.  He is hilarious.  We had a good time!  We did lots of walking which is always a blast.

Hope you guys have a good week!  I love you so much!  I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior and that this is His work.  I am so grateful for the opportunity I have to share the gospel everyday!

Elder Johnson? More Like Barber Johnson!

March 4, 2019

What's up everyone?

Big shoutout to my bro, Tanner, for getting engaged last week!!  And also to the homie Elder Dawson for finishing up his mission this week in Africa!

Our week was super good this week!  We have been super busy just going from appointment to appointment.  It felt weird because we hardly had any time to go out finding.  We have been truly blessed here in this area so far.  Tony is kind of regressing right now, unfortunately.  He wasn't able to meet this week and didn't come to church.  We may have to push his date back.  Hester and Ken, however, are doing great.  They are both progressing really well.  Ken had to work on Sunday, but Hester came on her own which was huge!!  We got a referral for a guy on date this week so I mean, we'll take it!  We are yet to meet him, ha ha, but he is on date for April 13th.  Seems like a cool guy.  We are also teaching this 17 year old named Haylee.  She is progressing pretty well.  She is currently living with a member family.  We committed her to be baptized and is currently praying about a date.

We have been doing some work up in the Neah-kah-nie branch.  We are working with a few people and also have been visiting lots of formers.  We plan on doing lots of tracting in that area in the coming weeks because of all the years that missionaries haven't been there.  So, hopefully, we can strike gold this week.

I cut my own hair this week so you already know I'm a pro now.  I only messed up twice!  We also got a missionary version of ESPN which is pretty hype!  ha ha.

Well, that's about it.  I love you guys so much!!  Have a great week.  I know this is the Lord's work and I am so grateful to be a part of it.

Here are some pics from our hike today at Cape Meares and also a nice sunset we got.

Cape Lookout

February 25, 2019

Hey Everyone!

This week was really good.  We had lots of good things happen.  We are seeing some awesome success with the people we are teaching.  We were honestly so busy this week, we had like no time to actually proselyte and find new people to teach.  People that we found last week we weren't able to catch home this week which was too bad.

We had a lesson this week with our boy Tony who is on date for March 23rd and it didn't go too hot.  We taught him the Word of Wisdom and right now he has absolutely no desire to live it which is pretty sad.  That basically means he hasn't received a spiritual witness of the Book of Mormon or Joseph Smith.  Once he knows Joseph Smith is a prophet, he will have more of a desire to live the Word of Wisdom!

We had an amazing lesson with our investigator named Hester.  Her husband is the guy I talked about last week named Ken.  They both have weird work schedules so we have to meet with them separately.  We taught her the Plan of Salvation and it was such a spiritual lesson.  We invited her to be baptized on March 30th and she told us that that was the day she felt like she should be baptized on!!  We hadn't even brought it up to her yet!  She and Ken both came to church was which awesome!

We had to speak up at the Neah-kah-nie Branch on Sunday.  It went pretty well.  There wasn't too many people but we did have the Millers there which was really good!

Last night, the Spanish Elders came over to spend the night because they came out here for the day yesterday.  They chilled with us today and we went on a super cool hike on Cape Lookout.  I'll send some nice pics.

Love you guys!  Hope you have a great week!
